Timber Ridge's Visual Arts Program is based on the National and Georgia Standards for Visual Arts; including Art Criticism, Art History, and Aesthetics. Studio based projects will be explored incorporating concepts and ideas from other disciplines; such as Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math.
Art Curriculum Overview
All students will produce artworks in a variety of subject matter and in the areas of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, pottery, fiber arts, and mixed media.
5th Grade-color theories (monochromatic, analogous, and monochromatic); linear perspective; one and two- point perspective; form (open and closed); composition; proportion; contrast; artistic theories (realism, formalism, emotionalism and expressionism); artistic styles; symbols; art careers.
4th Grade- spatial techniques; symmetrical and asymmetrical balance; positive and negative space; point of view; technology in art; color theory (hue, intensity and value)(complementary and neutral); categories of artworks; atmospheric perspective; dimensional line and shading techniques; types of drawings (gesture, contour and blind contour) .
3rd Grade– value; emphasis; balance; intermediate colors; line studies; space (foreground, middle and background); principles of design; sculpture and modeling (additive and subtraction).
2nd Grade- creating tints and shades; elements of art (shape, form, warm and cool colors); representational art; radial balance and symmetry; symbols and icons; two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional forms; movement and rhythm in art.
1st Grade- geometric and organic shapes; positive and negative space, overlap; themes in art; mixing primary and secondary colors; pattern; art elements (line, texture, color); natural and man made objects.
Kindergarten- exploration of different art forms; color; line; shapes; 3-D dimension; texture; form; art history introduction; Who are artists ?; What is art ?; maintenance and safety in the art room.
