Citing Sources

As our students begin researching and writing, it is necessary for us to instill an ethical respect for the work of others.  Learning that plagiarism is a type of theft is essential for the integrity of the academic community.  Cobb Virtual Library [CVL] is an excellent reference resource center, available through the CCSD.  With each article, a correctly formatted citation is given to be used to reference the information source.

 An example from World Book:

"How to cite this article:
To cite this article, World Book recommends the following format:

"Amusement park." World Book Kids. World Book, 2009. Web. 27 Aug. 2009."

The recommended style for citing sources is that of the Modern Language Association.   A helpful site that will generate a correct citation using the MLA format is:  http://www.palomar.edu/dsps/actc/mla/
