Origami Eyes

 

Our Third grade classes are learning how to take a 2-D shape and transform it into a 3-D form. They will make 3-D origami eye sculptures that will be perfect for this time of year. Several of the older grades levels expressed interest in learning how to make this project. I just love when this happens! Below is a link that will give you visual directions. Please know that the words are in a different language, but the images are very easy to understand. Have fun and bring in your creations to show off ! "Eye" will be excited to "see" them!!

Adventures with Allatoona Ally Coloring Book Contest

 

Elementary: Adventures with Allatoona Ally and Friends Coloring Book

WaterSmart invites Cobb County 4th and 5th grade students to draw their best picture of Ally - Allatoona Lake's friendly fish mascot - and Tappy Turtle - Ally's friend - conserving water! Ally has been busy teaching Tappy everything she knows about water conservation, and now it's your turn! A panel of judges will choose 12 winning drawings based on creativity, artistic ability and water saving tips to be published in the 2017 Adventures with Allatoona Ally and Friends Coloring Book. 

The book will be unveiled at the Artist Autograph Party in early 2017, at which the winning students will be honored for their work. The educational coloring book is distributed to the community through doctors' offices, restaurants and retailers to educate others about water conservation.

4th and 5th Grade Art Club

Our first art club will begin on Wednesday, August 17th. Students were selected using a lottery process during their regular art classes. This session will focus on clay.

Newspapers Wanted!!!!

 

 What is black, white and read all over? Newspapers!!! If you still read the paper version, please recycle then to the art room.

Welcome Back to Art!!!

Welcome back to Mrs. Herndon’s Art
Room!

I have many new projects to try out with all of you that will expand your creativity. I will begin the year reviewing the Elements of art and the Principles of Design.  Student in second through fifth grade will be creating sketch books the first week of school. 

Art club will begin on Wednesday, August 17^th for fourth and fifth graders. Students are picked using a lottery system during their regular art class time. Future art club dates are posted on the calendar page of my blog.

Please check my art blog for information about many art contests that students may enter. Have your child inform me if they are planning to participate and I will be happy to help answer any questions that they may have.

I will be looking for a few morning art helpers. Helpers may be 4th or 5th grade students and be available at 7:20 - 7:45 in the mornings (except Monday's). They will help me with a variety of projects. If you are interested, please let me know.

Graphic Artist

Maurits Cornelis Escher was a Dutch graphic artist who made mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints. Early in his career he drew inspiration from nature, making studies of insects, landscapes, and plants such as lichens, all of which he reused as details in his artworks. He travelled in Italy and Spain, sketching buildings, townscapes, architecture and the tilings of the Alhambra and La Mezquita, Cordoba, and became steadily more interested in their mathematical structure.

Kennesaw State University Arts Festival

 

 

Spring Arts Festival | April 23, 2016 | 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Celebrate the arts at the Spring Arts Festival! The Festival will feature demonstrations and workshops on painting and drawing, 3D printing, basic digital painting, and Raku ceramics firing. Watch a fascinating iron pour or a steamroller producing jumbo relief prints from Print BIG! and Atlanta Printmaker’s Studio. There will also be a photo booth and a pin-up show, allowing local artists and students the chance to compete in four categories: elementary, middle, high school, and community. All activities are free except for the scratch block molds used for the iron pour. T-Shirts and food will be available for purchase.

Foundation Art Show

 

 

 

This month we will have our Foundation  Art Show. The show will be held in the cafeteria on Thursday, March 19^th. Our Timber Ridge students have worked very hard on their special projects and are excited to see their masters pieces framed and on display. All students will have a chance to view the show during the day with their class. The show will be open in the evening for students and their families from 5:30 until 7:30. Once again our fifth grade helpers will be on the stage offering hands on crafts for students to enjoy. Hope to see you there!
