4th graders learned about the third rule of bucket filling in their recent counseling core curriculum lesson. The message of being a bucket filler with kind words and actions had already been discussed and this additional rule let students know that if someone tried to dip, that they could use their lid. Strategies for using the lid include:
- Distance yourself from the person.
- Spend time doing something that you enjoy.
- You know that what they said is not true, so don’t believe it.
- Use positive self-talk to fill your own bucket.
Students then wrote a letter to themselves from the perspective of the lid, reminding them that "their trusty lid" was always there for them to use.
