We have had so much fun over the past few weeks celebrating the Rio 2016 Olympics. They have given us so much to talk about! Here are a few of the ways we used the Olympics to target our speech and language goals:
- Looking of Rio by looking it up on Google Maps and using directional terms to describe it. We learned how Rio is different from our home here in Georgia.
- Learning about new sports (e.g. equestrian, goalboall fencing). We described pictures of Olympians doing these sports and practiced telling how these are played.
- Describing retelling stories and videos of Olympians doing various sports.
- Learning new vocabulary (e.g., torch, medals) and practiced using ordinal terms (e.g. first, second, third).
- Discussing countires competing in the Olympics and learned about their athletes.
- Reading about the ancient and modern Olympics and comparing and contrasting the differences.
- Using Olympic words and terms to practice using correct production of our speech sounds
- Discussing Olympians and activities of Olympics by using smooth speech
Our next unit is Science. We will be discussing seasons, weather, and the water cycle in order to practice our speech and language skills. Please follow along in your child's speech folder and/or notebook to help them use these skills at home.
